One night over drinks a group of friends were discussing the New Years Day race that use to take place in Fayetteville. All of us were in agreement that we needed to bring a New Years Day race back, so it begin. None of us had really put on a race, but how hard could it be. We first had to name the race and what better name than the Black Eyed Pea. By eating black eyed peas on New Years Day you bring yourself good luck for the year. Another decision was whether to charge for the race or not. We all agreed that we wanted to offer a free chipped race, we thought this is chance to bring runners together to start the new year off right, both new and old. The first year, 2014, brought around 150 runners from NWA, the second year, 2015, we had over 300 runners show up. Looking forward to 2016.
